About Nell

A steady trawler built for quiet, long-range cruising and unhurried passages, Trawler Yacht Nell is more than a vessel—she is a sanctuary for the patient explorer. Her journeys are a testament to the art of the unhurried voyage, where the rhythm of the sea and the weather dictate the pace of life.

The Story of Nell

Nell was conceived in the tradition of true ocean-going trawlers—heavy, steady, and built for quiet, long-range exploration. She was crafted for unhurried passages through the waters of Northern Europe, offering a sanctuary for those who believe that the journey is the destination.

From her wide decks to her raised pilot house, Nell provides a platform of serene privilege. She was moulded in Asia and completed by Freeward Marine on the south-coast of England, in 1997. She has cruised the Irish Sea, the English Channel and some of the French coast, with previous owners. Chris purchased  Nell with the aim of being able to cruise the northern European waters, with the British Iles and Scandinavia firmly in his sights. In 2024, he sailed her from Dartmouth to Ipswich, so that she could be located on the East coast, easily accessible from Oundle.

Endurance & Range

Built for a degree of autonomy, With nearly 1,700 litres of diesel on board, Nell can cruise for around 600 miles. She also holds plenty of fresh water. She has the ability to make her own power with a diesel generator and an inverter, converting DC to AC.

Onboard Comfort

With a deck saloon and well-equipped galley, with fridge, hob, oven, air fryer and microwave, life aboard is very comfortable. Below, there are two cabins and a head with shower and WC.  Eberspacher heating keeps things cosy in the colder months.

Safety & Reliability

High bulwarks and wide side-decks provide safe movement at sea, supported by a heavily built hull,  for northern waters. Twin, commercial grade Deutz 286hp diesel engines drive the propellers.  In case it all goes wrong, there is a life raft and two tenders aboard.

Navigation Hub

A proper pilot house offers 360-degree visibility, and the KAD suspension seats provide comfort whilst on watch. Radar,  autopilot, VHF radios, chart plotter and AIS provide security whilst on the move. A traditional chart table and paper charts ensure things are done correctly.
